If you have never written a CV before, it’s best to use a sample template. I have a sample for you, keep reading. 

I will advise you don’t pay anyone to create your CV for you, do it yourself!  Unless you are good at it and just don’t have the time to draft one. Writing a CV  is not that hard. Follow the steps below and you will have a CV in less than 30 mins. Yes! 30 mins 

 

Building from scratch is not feasible for someone who has never written a CV before. Here is how to write a CV in 5 simple steps

How to write a CV in 5 Easy Steps (for Beginners)

Disclosure: Do not use one CV for all your job applications, unless it is the same role. Put only the experiences that are relevant to the role you are applying for in one CV. 

E.g If you are applying for a sales role, don’t put your mechanical engineering experiences. You can add maybe one if you are scarce on experiences.a

  1. Get a sample CV: Download Here  Click on the File option and download as Microsoft word to edit. [Don’t rush to start editing read the rest of the blog]

  1. Work Experience: On a separate sheet make a list of all your work experiences e.g Sales manager, Receptionist, Cleaner, Branch manager, Floor supervisor, CEO, or HR manager.

If you don’t have any paid work experience, you can add voluntary roles, school or university Industrial training [IT] programs, part-time jobs, or any example where you have worked to support a company or organization

3. List the key responsibilities you performed in the role [ What were your tasks?] e.g Managed all the cleaners on duty; Sold 500 bags of product weekly; Hired 50 staff in one week [Please come and teach me if you can] etc.

 This is very important; it shows your capacity and performance on the job. 

Please don’t use ‘I’. Don’t say: I managed 500 cleaners.

  1. Ask yourself: What am I good at? Write them down. These are your skills. Only write skills that are relevant to the job you are applying for. You can research these online. 

E.g You can run around and help people [ Resourcefulness]. When you start a task, you finish on time before your colleagues [Timeliness]. You like to arrange things [Organization]. Every time there is a quarrel in your neighbourhood, they call you to settle the issue [Conflict resolution]. If you don’t know the terms for your skill, ask us

Entry-level candidates who can get training in the area of process management will be considered faster during interviews

  • Employee Engagement Officer: Companies are paying through their noses just to ensure employees are engaged and satisfied. Imagine you are that person that can come up with ideas and innovations that can help talent retainment within the organization. You will be hired in no time!
